«It’s everyday life for us that we hold Grandmother Earth sacred, we hold the trees and the plants, everything has a spirit. We need people to be really respectful for each other. The Great Spirit put us here all together. If we’re going to survive, we need to have spirit and compassion. On June 21 we’re asking people to go to their sacred places or sacred spaces to pray.» Chief Arvol Looking Horse” 19th generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe
The Sacred New Earth Gathering will be an intereligious gathering that will happen in
Aldeia Nova Terra as part of the part of the various meetings and celebrations that are to be held parallel to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20, in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil this upcoming month of June. In this gathering a very special ceremony will be held on the June 21st to Celebrate World Peace and Day with Chief Arvol Looking Horse spiritual leader of the Dakota, Lakota and Nakota nations and several Brazilian indigenous elders and spiritual leaders of different traditions. The intention is to promote the worldwide celebration of the Global Peace and Prayer Day on June 21st, the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Since 1996 until now Chief Arvol Looking Horse traveled to different parts of the world to perform this ceremony on June 21 to promote this day as World Peace and Prayer by making a call for people to honor their sites and Mother Nature with sacred ceremony.
All Nations, All Faiths, One Prayer!
Following the birth of the first White Buffalo Calf in 1994, the Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe for the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota Nations, Arvol Looking Horse, was directed to honor the Four Directions with ceremony on June 21st. According to Lakota Star Knowledge, the birth of Miracle, a female white buffalo, signaled a time of earth changes and the coming of the mending of the Hoop of All Nations. The Solstice is said to be a powerful time to pray for peace and harmony among all Living Beings. Grandmother Earth’s gifts, the air, water plant, animal and rock nations must be allowed to heal if we are to live in harmony with Her.All Nations recognize Sacred Sites as Places to gather or perform ceremony. For countless generations these Sites were honored, cherished and strengthened through ceremony and Our Mother remained healthy. To ensure the lives of future generations for all our relations, we must begin again to honor, cherish and renew Our Mother.
For four years, beginning in 1996, Chief Looking Horse honored June 21st by offering ceremony in the Four Directions. He traveled to Gray Horn Butte in Wyoming (aka Devils Tower), the Cree Nation in Canada, Pipestone Quarry in Minnesota and to Costa Rica. People of all the Nations of the globe were invited to offer ceremony at Sacred Sites. Thousands around the world have responded and began honoring their local Sites. Following the Wopila (Thank-you ceremony) in the “Heart of Everything That Is,” the Sacred Black Hills, South Dakota in 2000, it was decided that Chief Looking Horse must once again offer ceremony to the Four Directions of the globe. He began in Ireland in 2001, South Africa 2002, Australia 2003, and Japan in 2004. In 2005 the ceremony returned to the Black Hills to offer another Wopila on Turtle Island (North America) to complete his commitment to bring about awareness about the protection and honoring of Sacred Sites.
Since then until now this ceremony remained in its home the Black Hills until now when it comes to Rio de Janeiro as part of the Sacred Earth Gathering from the 19th to 21th of June in Aldeia Nova Terra.
We call the people to join in prayer in Sacred Places all over the Planet on this date as part of the celebration of World Peace and Prayer Day.
The time and now. We are what we are waiting for !
